Privacy Policy
Effective September 17, 2026
CostCrossover is built to work with as little personal information as possible. This page explains, in plain English, what happens to the information you enter.
What we collect
- Calculator inputs. The numbers you type are processed to produce your result. They are used to calculate and display that result and are not stored with your identity.
- Your email address — only if you ask us to. If you choose to save your result or schedule the single Storage Regret Date reminder, we store your email address, your explicit consent, your verdict, your planning horizon, and your break-even month and date. Nothing else.
- Anonymous usage events. We log a small number of first-party events (page viewed, calculator started, calculator completed, button clicked, selling tool started/completed, which resource was opened) together with a random session identifier that lives in your browser tab's session storage and disappears when you close the tab. If you arrive through a link we deliberately tagged, these events may also carry one short source code from a fixed list we maintain, such as
redditorfacebook. We do not store the address of the page you came from or the rest of the web address you arrived on, and this source code is never added to saved-result, reminder, or email records. - Contact messages. If you use the contact form, your email address, chosen topic, and message are forwarded directly to us by email. They are not saved in our database.
What our analytics deliberately does not collect
Our usage events are intentionally minimal. They never include:
- your name or email address
- the dollar amounts or any raw numbers you entered
- your IP address or browser user-agent
- the address of the referring page you came from
- the full web address or query string you arrived on
- free-text you typed, or your location
The event log and the saved-result records are kept separate: your session identifier and the campaign source code are never stored alongside your email address, and saved emails are never sent into analytics.
Why we use this information
- To calculate and show you your result.
- To email you the result you asked us to save, and one reminder if one applies.
- To understand, in aggregate, which tools people find useful and where they get stuck.
- To reply to messages you send us.
We do not sell your information, and we do not run advertising or ad-tracking on this site.
Consent and reminders
Email is strictly opt-in. You must tick the consent box before we store your address, and that consent covers one result email and, when a break-even date applies, one reminder. There is no newsletter. Every reminder email includes a one-click link that cancels the reminder; you can also ask us to remove your record entirely through the contact form.
Service providers
- Lovable — hosting, application backend, and database for this site.
- Resend — delivery of the result and reminder emails, and of contact-form messages.
These providers process the limited data described above on our behalf. Standard server logs kept by hosting and email providers are outside our control and are not used by us for analytics.
How long we keep things
Saved result records are kept while they may still be useful to you — long enough to send your result and any scheduled reminder — and are removed when they are no longer needed or when you ask us to remove them. Anonymous usage events are kept in aggregate form for product improvement. Contact messages live in our email inbox and are deleted once the conversation is finished. Calculator inputs are not stored.
Cookies
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The only browser storage we rely on is a random session identifier held in your tab's session storage for anonymous event counting.
Links to other sites
Our tools point to third-party marketplaces, consignment services, donation organizations, and removal services. Once you follow a link, that company's own privacy policy and terms apply. We have no control over what they collect.
Security
We keep data collection small, transmit everything over HTTPS, and keep credentials on the server only. No website can promise perfect security, so please share only what you're comfortable sending.
Children
CostCrossover is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of the personal information a business holds about you, and to opt out of certain uses. Because the only personal information we hold is an email address you chose to give us, most requests are simple: ask us and we'll act on it. Send a request through the contact form and choose the privacy topic.
This page describes our actual practices in plain language. It is written to be honest and useful, not to serve as legal advice or a guarantee of compliance with any particular law.
Changes
If our practices change, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
